  • Help your kidneys to filter your blood
  • Regulate body temperature
  • Cushion the brain, spinal cord, and other sensitive tissues

Drinking water is a crucial part of your overall health, including your oral health. But, there is an everlasting debate on which water is best – bottle or tap?

Tap Water is the Best Source to Fluoride

One aspect that is overlooked is that you are constantly losing and taking in minerals. Phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and fluoride are all known as healthy minerals that keep your teeth strong and protect them from decay.

Fluoride is the most important mineral when it comes to keeping your teeth strong and healthy. Dental professionals recommend you take in fluoride through both external and internal means. You can find this within:

  • Toothpaste
  • Rinse
  • Tap Water
  • Supplements

Most towns do add fluoride to the tap water, meaning that the population is able to get their dietary fluoride needs from their tap water.

Many bottled water companies remove minerals and substances including fluoride from their water in order to prevent those minerals from affecting the taste. Tap water isn’t just the better choice because of your oral health, there’s multiple reasons why you should give up bottled water.

3 Reasons to Stop Drinking Bottled Water

  1. Bottled Water generates More Waste: Plastic bottles can take years to decompose in a landfill. If they don’t make it to the landfill, they are incinerated, and release toxic gases into the atmosphere.
  2. Bottled Water has Awful Value: According to Food & Water Watch, tap water costs $0.005 per gallon while bottled water costs $8.26 per gallon, more than 3 times the cost of milk. Using bottled water to consume the recommended amount of 8 glasses per day would be $1,400 per year. If you were to drink 8 glasses of tap water per day for one year, the cost is $0.49.
  3. Most brands are selling you bottled tap water: The quality of bottled water will vary depending on the brand you buy. According to Natural Living Ideas, more chemicals and other unwanted compounds may go into your bottled water. Bottled water samples not only contain phthalates but some contain mold, microbes, benzene, trihalomethanes, and even arsenic.

If you aren’t sure how the tap water is in your area, take a look at your local water fluoride report from the CDC.
